My joy as a therapist is to help my clients find hope. As a Christian therapist I seek to help my clients to unify their mind, will, and spirit to bring about a wholehearted and joyful life. My name is Monica Currier, and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor who graduated from Western Seminary in 2020 with a Master of Arts in Counseling. I am passionate about walking with clients on their journey toward greater awareness, healing and wholeness.

Approach

There are times we all feel stuck in life – estranged from parts of ourselves, God, and others. We long to be known, seen, heard, and loved unconditionally. Under those circumstances, great change is possible. Yet, it can be terrifying to lower our masks of self-protection and risk being known. I understand that fear, and will prioritize safety so you can explore new ways of being in the world. I am eclectic in my approach, utilizing attachment theory and skills based in cognitive behavior therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. As a compassionate witness and a collaborator with you in the therapeutic process, I meet you where you’re at. Together, we will identify and work to transform the stuck places and relational patterns that may no longer serve you well and which may be keeping you from being known, seen, heard, and loved.

Amy’s passion is to help others identify their unique, beautiful, authentic selves. She works to identify the ways we minimize or manage our suffering and uncover the true vulnerable self. This world is not going to be easy on us. Therefore, it is up to each of us to determine if we are going to let it harden us, keeping us from relationship with others, or if we will brave being soft and connected. Amy sees trauma not as a prison sentence, but something that provides the opportunity to reveal glory. She loves stories of restoration and resilience. Amy uses grief and pain to bring light to beauty continually being revealed in and around us.

Approach

Amy is skilled in using a client centered approach to counseling. Not rushing the process, Amy provides her clients with healthy coping skills using a combination of therapies. She has experience with CBT and DBT modalities and emphasizes the importance of teaching and helping her clients stay within their window of tolerance. Approach

My training has led me to look at the therapeutic process as a holistic approach to help people live better lives. I use many different methods to help my clients find the relief and growth they are looking for when coming into the counseling settings. I often use Solution focused therapy (SFT) to help my clients find constructive ways to live happier lives. This approach is short-term and goal oriented. When helping couples work through there struggles in their relationships, I often use Emotional focused Therapy (EFT) Emotionally focused therapy helps people restructure their emotional responses to help strengthen their relationships. In some cases when clients are learning new tools to help make changes in behaviors, I will use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). We many times are products of our environment and upbringing this shapes how we see and do things, sometimes good and sometimes negatively in our relationships. In this case I may use Family therapy to look deeper into the family of origin. This work often has a spiritual component for many clients, so we often use the clients leading in this area of importance. This is what I mean when I say a holistic approach to therapy many tools are used to live better lives.

Passion

My passion is people living the life they have always dreamed of. This does not mean there will be no challenges or difficulties (That is just life) but life is to be lived. We need to be free to love, be loved, and seen this is our greatest desire GOD has given us. I love helping people live their lives well.

My passion is to help others heal from trauma and to enjoy healthy relationships. We all need trusted relationships, to be comforted and to comfort, and to share our joys and struggles. The more connected we are with others, the more we can explore, take risks, restore, and flourish. Yet, sometimes we feel far away from people we long to share our lives with. Together, we will work to develop healthy bonds with self and others, make sense of confusing feelings and physical reactions, and practice skills that bring relief and healing.

Approach

I believe a strong therapist-client relationship is the foundation for successful healing. On this foundation, I utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy to help clients break through patterns that keep them stuck. I also incorporate concepts from Neurobiology to help people who experience painful memories and difficult feelings to discover new ways to cope and thrive. I am trained in EMDR Basic and EFT, and I have experience in Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family Systems, CBT and DBT which I use collaboratively, with my clients, to help them achieve their goals.

Connection and relating to one another are arguably the most important aspects of the human experience. I have a passion for people’s stories – who they are and why they are. I believe that no one is beyond help and that seeking counsel is exceptionally courageous. I am committed to providing a safe environment where anyone can express their struggles or concerns without fear of judgment. I’m looking forward to walking alongside anyone who may reach out in times of need.

Approach

My counseling style incorporates a holistic approach known as the biopsychosocial spiritual model. People are healthiest when each of these categories are in line. If something is amiss in one of these areas, we will work together to strengthen it and make a cohesive whole.
